“I enjoy connecting with our students early in high school, so throughout the rest of their time at Gibault, I can invest in each student.”

Andrew Skaer Math Instructor/Department Chair

Andy Skaer is one of Gibault’s math teachers and the head of the Mathematics Department.  Andy started teaching at Gibault Catholic in the fall of 2005, and this has been his only full-time teaching position.  Andy went to Kaskaskia College in Centralia, IL, out of high school and earned his AS while playing baseball. Andy finished his Mathematic Education degree at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville after student teaching at Belleville Township High School East in the fall of 2003. Andy has been the Head Baseball Coach since the spring of 2005. During his tenure, the Hawks have had success, winning 4 Regional Titles, State Runner-Up in 2019, and Class 1A State Champions in 2013. In 2020, Andy took over as Head Cross Country Coach.  In addition to teaching math, Andy is the Math Team sponsor. Andy is also the sponsor for Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). The group tries to meet at least once a month to help connect our faith to our efforts on the field of competition.

In the classroom, Andy teaches Algebra 1, Advanced Algebra 1, and Advanced Algebra 2 within the Math Department.  Andy likes teaching these classes because this allows him to connect with many of the students when they are freshmen. Andy and his wife, Jackie, have two beautiful children, Gwyneth and Andrew (Drew), who attend Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Waterloo. In his free time, other than spending time with his family, Andy enjoys playing baseball and running.  Andy picked up running about four years ago and has completed three half-marathons.
