PUBLICATION MEDIA
The public has relied on dependable journalism to promote news, events, and commentary of a culture since the beginning of the modern era. Publications Media will serve that role in the Gibault community and introduce students to the evolving world of online media. Law, ethics, and the history of journalism and publications will be covered, alongside the fundamentals of journalistic writing and digital publications to produce student work. This will include work done for the yearbook, photography course, digital arts course, literary and academic journals, and the school newspaper. These publications will serve as a look into the Gibault culture for potential/future students and families as well as record Gibault’s history. The newspaper will be published regularly and include news, features, sports, arts/entertainment, alumni news, and editorials. Students will become familiar with the publication process from beginning to end using Microsoft Word and AnyFlip. Along with content-creation and layout design, students will have the opportunity to work alongside theElective Republic-Times to obtain real-world exposure which may become an insight into college and career choices. Students will also have the opportunity to join the Quill and Scroll Honor Society leading to potential scholarships. The course will be co-taught and will meet three out of six days in the rotation.
